The Theology of the Body

An excerpt from a book in our shop by Mary Healy., Men and Women are from Eden: A Study Guide to John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. pp12,13,14.

“‘Then God said, “Let us make man [Adam] in our image, after our likeness; and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” So God created man [Adam] in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”‘ Genesis 1:26-27.

“Man, as male and female, is in the image of God. That is, human beings have a special relationship to God unlike any other creature. . . Only the human being is a person.”

“It means that our very embodiment as either male or female – that is, our sexual complementarity – reveals something significant about us, and thus about God.”
