Corporal & Spiritual Works of Mercy

Pope Francis reassures us that “Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instils in us the courage to look to the future with hope.”

It is now a week since we opened our holy door here at Emmanuel House. Please God, many souls have been released from Purgatory during this time.

In light of this, let us begin to look forward to the year ahead. It is important for us not to let this Year pass us by without availing of its great graces.

What does this mean for us as Catholics? What must we do?

Let us start by naming some of the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy:

Corporal Works of Mercy

  1. Feed the Hungry.
  2. Give drink to the thirsty.
  3. Clothe the naked.
  4. Shelter the homeless.
  5. Visit the sick.
  6. Visit the imprisoned.
  7. Bury the dead.

Spiritual Works of Mercy

  1. Instruct the Ignorant.
  2. Counsel the Difficult.
  3. Admonish the Sinner.
  4. Comfort the Sorrowful.
  5. Forgive Injuries.
  6. Bear Wrongs Patiently.
  7. Pray for the Living and Dead.
